DJ EKO

DJ EKO (SF) is a sound embassador and good-groove-enthusiast who spent the mid-90’s breaking artists like The Roots, D’angelo, The Fugees, Outkast and Mos Def as a radio host and music director for KZSC in the Bay Area. By 2000, she cemented her connoisseur status as a music journalist for print magazines, writing music content for Yahoo! and working with Aceyalone, Blackalicious, Jurassic 5, Madlib and Stonesthrow Records. 2003 rolled around and she was sent on the Sprite Liquid Mix tour alongside cohorts N.E.R.D., The Roots and Talib Kweli.

Eko’s known for being eclectic and versatile, easily reading a crowd and traversing cross-genre to deliver sets that paint an energy rather than staying contained inside sound boundaries. When she’s not traveling to play, she’s busy at home keeping a pulse on everything new and exiting. Mixing up everything from Soul and Electronica, Electro and Bailefunk, Dubstep and Hip Hop, AfroHouse and Afrobeat, Dancehall and Samba in her mix cds as well as at clubs, fashion shows, art galleries, boutiques, festivals, concerts and private and public functions (Adidas, Sephora, Ann Taylor, Scion, Macy’s & Y3).

With her love of diasporic, music it’s natural that she’s being welcomed as an artist growing into the gardens of dj communities in the Bay Area and beyond. She considers herself lucky to have performed for Coachella, Power To The Peaceful, Raindance, GirlFest Hawaii, Youth Speaks & the Peace in Iraq Photo Project.

DJ Eko wraps up Left Coast Live’s Scion Silent Disco Saturday night from 10 – 11:30 pm.
